Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
My interest in Marriage and Family Therapy stems from a desire to fill a gap that seemed to be present in my own community. Having had experiences where an unbiased sounding board could have been pivotal in navigating unstable relationships, I set a path that allowed me to be the change I wanted to see.
I earned a BA in Psychology at Chapman/Brandman University and later completed an MS in Marriage and Family Counseling Therapy at Capella University.
The mantra and/or general philosophy that anchors my practice is “building healthy relationships one story at a time.” This includes the relationship with oneself. There is no one fits all solution to a problem or one way of getting to a place of feeling well. With that in mind, I aim to listen, learn, validate, and advocate for what “works” for my clients.
In a session, you will discover a therapeutic style which involves an integrated approach using Emotion-Focused, Solution-Focused, and Narrative techniques. Mindfulness is also actively incorporated into my practice. I have experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Strategic Therapies as well.
Early in my career, I served families and children in rural Maine as a Behavioral Health Professional assisting families in learning how to manage crisis and cope with challenges associated with ADHD, ODD, CD, and autism. I later traveled back to my home state of sunny California to serve as Primary Counselor at a locked residential psychiatric facility where I worked with adults of all ages with varying levels of relationship concerns, depression, anxiety, PTSD, Psychotic and other severe mental health disorders.
Most recently, I’ve been providing therapy for young adults and their families transitioning through the growing pains of seeking independence and allowing adult children the autonomy to direct their own lives. This sensitive process is widely known as “launching” can be especially challenging for all members of the family unit. Additionally, I provide web-therapy for clients across the state of New York making therapy accessible to as many individuals as possible.
I have a passion for storytelling/sharing and using story as a vehicle to highlight clients strengths, motivations, resilience, hope, and untapped desires. I’m glad you found me...let’s talk!
